Understanding discoloration

Why do teeth turn yellow?

Tooth shade naturally changes over time. There are two main families of discoloration. Extrinsic discolorations affect the surface of the enamel: they come from coffee, tea, red wine, sodas, tobacco and pigmented foods. Professional whitening removes them very effectively.

Les Intrinsic discolorations are located inside the tooth, in the dentin. They result from aging — the enamel thins and reveals a yellower dentin —, from taking certain antibiotics (tetracyclines during childhood), from excess fluoride or from an old trauma. Whitening acts more slowly on this type of discoloration; in some cases, an E-Max veneer gives a more predictable result. An assessment carried out by the practitioner identifies the exact origin of the discoloration and guides toward the solution best suited to your situation.

After the session

How long does the result last?

The result of a professional whitening lasts on average 1 to 3 years, depending on your oral hygiene and lifestyle. Tobacco, coffee, tea and red wine speed up the reappearance of discoloration.

To prolong the brightness as long as possible: avoid coloring drinks for the 48 hours following the session (the "white diet"), maintain rigorous brushing twice a day, and plan a simple maintenance session every 12 to 18 months if needed. A slight temporary sensitivity may appear within 24 to 48 hours; it disappears on its own.

Whitening is not indicated in every case

It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, before age 16, and as long as cavities or gum disease have not been treated. Note: whitening lightens only natural teeth — already-placed veneers, crowns and composites keep their shade. In cases of strong intrinsic discoloration, an E-Max veneer is often more suitable.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions

What is the price of teeth whitening in Tunisia?
+
Teeth whitening price Tunisia is €170 for a full LED session at the Dental Veneers Tunisia Clinic. In Europe, the same service costs between €400 and €800. Laser whitening Tunisia is available from €220.
What is the difference between LED and laser whitening?
+
LED whitening uses a diode lamp that activates the whitening gel, delivering a result of 6 to 8 shades in 1h30. Laser whitening Tunisia is more powerful and faster (1h), with a result of 8 to 10 shades. Both are painless at the Dental Veneers Tunisia Clinic.
Whitening or veneer — which treatment to choose?
+
If your teeth are healthy and simply yellowed, teeth whitening Tunisia is the least invasive and least expensive solution (€170). If your teeth are also misaligned, chipped or imperfectly shaped, E-Max veneers offer a more complete result. Our practitioners advise you during the quote.
Is teeth whitening painful?
+
No. Professional LED whitening is painless. Some patients may feel slight sensitivity for 24h after the treatment. Gels with an adapted concentration minimize any discomfort.
Can whitening and veneers be combined?
+
Yes, and it is even recommended. Whitening is done first to determine the desired base shade, then the veneers are made in that same shade. We offer whitening + veneers packages at a preferential price.
